RC gas/nitro difference…..?

I wanna buy a rc gas/nitro car but not sure of the main difference between gas and nitro.

What fuel does each take?

For the gas version can u use gas at a local pump?
(Im in Australia so we refer to unleaded petrol and gas as gasoline).

cheers
Also overall running costs……just that I dont wanna end up buying pricy fuel/gas from hobby shops….

all the other covered the differences and are right . the 1/4 scale cars are almost always gas powered by a motor similar to that of onr in aweed eater anything smaller like 1'10 1/8 scale are all nitro powered 20% nitro is about 20$ a gallon and gas is ,well here in the us its around $3.15 a gallon. the bigger scale cars and truck are more expensive to buy and parts are a little more expensive. the smaller are cheaper to purchase buy i would say about the same to maintain. the initial cost of the car is going to be the big issue. 1/4 scale can run upwards of $1200 1/10 ,1/8 are cheaper at around $300-500 for a good nitro powered name brand car or thruck. dont be afraid to spend the money for a good one it will save you alot of headaches. hope this helps Ive been messing with this stuff for about 15years and i love it its a real blast me and my kids all love it it can be spendy but its fun.

nitro fuel is a special blend for rc nitro engines. They have some notro engines that run on local pump gas but the engines typically cost 3 times more money. Plus the are harder to upkeep. I would go with nitro for your first non electric RC car. Good luck.

Gas is gasoline, and the engine is usually much larger and complicated by the ignition system.

I have not seen RC cars big enough to use this type of engine, they are usually used in Giant Scale airplanes; and some people call ALL fuels gas!

Nitro is a fuel mixture of alcohol, lubricating oil (natural and/or synthetic), and nitromethane; in varying percentages (oil from 10-16%, nitro from 0-30%) The engines are smaller and use glow plugs which remain hot while running, thereby eliminating the ignition system and any associated problems.
