Vintage 1986 Kyosho Vanning 1/8 nitro R/C car

This is footage of my shelf queen Kyosho Vanning I got as a Christmas present back in 1986. As you can see, it was in pretty poor shape until last winter (2006) when I restored it. Lots of paint overspray had to be removed due to where it was stored. It's a roller chain driven buggy, 4WD, aluminum rail type chasses with an aluminum roll cage. The engine is the original OS .21 that came with the car.

I've lusted over …
I've lusted over this car for 20 years LOL…never made the leap to nitro back then though, because they were just too finicky and required so much equipment. I was already invested in electric. The Vanning was a special car though, and these days to see one in that kind of condition on eBay is rare and very expensive. I am impressed that you took it off the shelf to run, and how well it runs indeed! AWESOME

I used to drive and …
I used to drive and collect Kyosho's old 2WD (Rowdy Baja) and 4WD (Landjump/Vanning) gas buggies. I found the chain and the spur gear are the weak links on the Landjump/Vanning while the 2WD buggies are more sturdy (simple too). They sure look totally different from the modern buggies. Have fun!

Now THAT brought …

The Vanning was the slowest among the 3, but much easier to control and by far my favorite….
