Nito rc cars (RTR)?
Hey whats goinf on guys? Im just trying to get some information about what is needed to get and maintain a nitro r/c car. Such as what type of fuel, how to turn it on, and keep it running, and if anybody answering these questions has one please let me know where i can get one for a good price if you can. Also, is nitro r/c the same as as gas powerd r/c cars?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nitro cars can be quite easy to maintain and tune if you treat the engine right and follow the instrctions. The most popular of nitrus brands is Traxxas with a variety of trucks and considered the fastest sedan the 4-tec 3.3.
To answer your question about nitro and gas, gas rc cars do use a different form and stroke of engine the nitro cars and trucks. They tend to be alot larger in scale and the cost of maintenance and repair is alot more.
Turning on an nitro engine can be done several ways and almost all methods are compaitible with name brand engines. The easiest and most popular is simply a pull start and glow stick, place the glow stick over the plug and pull just as you would a lawnmower. Other methods are a starter box, an ez start, a rotor start etc. It depends on your preference but most all are easy to work with.
If you are a complete newbie to the hobby perhaps a used car that's had about 8-12 tanks through it is for you that someone has already tuned and performs well. Places like Ebay and RCuniverse ads are a good for saving alot of money and finding one thats already broken in.
If you want to take the new route, http://www.towerhobbies.com/index.html or http://www.horizonhobby.com
are the best places to look if you dont have a local store. Brands I would look for are Associated tc3, cen CT5, X-Ray NT-1, Kyosho fw-05.
Cars to avoid are all hpi and all smartech cars. try to avoid majority of duratrax and acme when it comes to sedans as well, you will be better of in the end. When it comes to maintenance all you really need is a receiver pack charger, glow igniter, some oil for bearings and wheels, and oil/after run oil for your air filter and a good ear to tune your car.
Cheers and good luck

You just need to clean air filter with soap and water dry and then it must be oiled with air cleaner oil found at your hobby shop,as far as starting them i suggest electric start pull star sucks,Traxxas has a electric start system,if you do get a pull start you can convert it to a tiger drive stater, and turn it with your cordless hous drill.Always run all gas out of it even when it runs out it will start again, never leave fuel in it cause nitro attracts moisture and your bearrings inside the engine will rust. Also take off air filter whenn completely empty and open carb althe way and turn over without the glow ignitor,it'll last forever, any more questions feel free to mail me hemi426mopar@yahoo.com
