problems with electric rc car!!!!!!!!!!!!?

hi, umm im having abit of problems with my electric rc car, i bought it in 1998, and well used it 4 lyk a yr, then it somhow got in2 the attic and stayd there until 2day i took it out, charged it, but for some reason the front tyres go left and right, but i cant get it 2 go forward or reverse, when i press the accelarator, all i can hear is this sort of banging/clicking noise, my mate told me 2 adjust the trim 2 and play around until the wheels start moving, but that just doesnt happen, every time i change trim 2, all i hear is a click or a bang. so what do you think i should do?

if its eletric, take off the body and look at the motor to make sure every thing is ok and connected fully. if not correct it or you can just take it to your local eletronic store like "best buy" or "radio shack" or the place you bought it and ask them for help. good luck!! (you can also just buy a new one, but id sudgest buying a new nitro rc on www.raidentech.com, i got a gas rc there for 120 bucks and it works great.)
