The max distance at the event is far too short (but pretty far out in length) for the mod nitro's who are maxed out for speed to beat it.
It would take nearly 20+ miles of track for something to reach it's top speed that is nitro.

the reason electric …
the reason electric r/c cars are the only cars that hold speed records is because electric motors produce max torque almost instantaneously. nitro engines must spool up to full torque. since there is a limited amount of space, nitro vehicles cannot reach full speed. it is plausible for nitro vehicles to reach speeds of 200mph, but they need lots of room to reach those speeds and an extremely steady hand. id truly like to see anyone drive a two foot piece of plastic in a straight line at 200mph.
