starting electric RC racing car?

I am looking into an RC racing car(1/10th scale) and I have a budget of $400. I have decent experience having other RC cars and such, and my neighbor with a track has told me I drive his cars very well. I am looking for a buggie, truggie, or truck. it doesn't matter if it is brush or brushless, I prefer brushless, and I need a good battery and a good charger. NO LiPo. Please help me out as I am new to these cars.

i would strongly recommend Traxxas. they have the best cars, trucks, buggies. i have several of their products and have never had a problem with them. i would recommend their VXL Brushless series. they cost around $250-300 depending on where you buy from. a good 6-cell pack will cost you somewhere around $50-60, and Traxxas has a charger for $50. if you want something cheaper the Traxxas Slash is a really fun truck and costs about $200 and is upgradeable to brushless.

if you dont know where to buy from here are some sites:

What's the best electric rc car to buy?

Under $150
i prefer an offroad rc car under $120

Traxxas Rustler you can get it for about $150.00 ready to run.(you will need a battery and charger though) it does about 35 mph.

If you want to build one than Tamiya Grasshopper kit is about 170.00 with everything you need. goes about 15 mph.

As for under 150.00 or 120.00 your kind of limited to Toys R us or Radio shack, and I would wait and save so you can get something you will enjoy. I also gave you off road models as you did not say which you wanted. I hope this helps, check out the link.

Is it safe to drive remote control cars on carpet?

I bought my son one but i don't know if its okay for him to drive it over on the carpet.

Its safe to run remote control cars on carpet, you should be careful of the type of the carpet because if it is shag or another long carpet there are chances that it will get wrapped up on the wheels. If it is an expensive carpeting cars with studded wheels are possibly not the best thing because when they are sliding around they can cause small snags, its nothing serious for normal high traffic carpet but something like carpet in your office where it is designed more for decoration than actually being walked over repeatedly with high traffic will suffer more. Short answer is normal short carpeting you can play with almost any type of car, shag or longer carpet taller cars with more lift is better, smooth carpeting something with harder racing or normal car wheels will do fine.
Don't stress too much and have fun with your son, maybe you can get a car and the 2 of you can race them
